It’s a Thursday night, and you are bored out of your mind. What do you do? I would almost guarantee you grab your iPhone and open Instagram to see what your friends and acquaintances are doing. You swipe down through a couple “TBT” photos and see a funny dog picture—double tap for a like—then you stop.

There is a beautiful picture of a stream with the text of Psalm 23:2 overlaid on top in a really cool way. The text changes colors as it gets closer to the stream, and a splash of water actually covers the text. It’s as though Psalm 23:2 is living within the world of this picture. The perspective is like you are looking up at the text, and it really looks 3D! They obviously made this in Photoshop, right? There’s no way that you could make this!

But there is. With this great new app called Typorama, you can open a whole new world of inspirational statements, Bible verses, or silly text on photos. Youth leaders will love this app for sermons quotes, announcements, or even to create sermon titles. You will enjoy manipulating the text in different ways and coming up with great ways to show your Instagram feed is “on fleek.” I don’t know what that means, but according to the youth at my church, it’s pretty fly (that’s cool for you generation X’ers).

When you open the app, you have the option to choose one of their preloaded photos, choose a photo of your own, or search their vast library of images and use one of thousands of photos for free. While their stock photos are limited, sometimes searching for the right thing is all it takes to find the perfect photo. Or, if you are inspired by your surroundings, take a quick picture and upload it into the app to start layering text on top.

Then, you can crop it as a square for Instagram or leave it at its natural size. The fun kicks in next. Now you get the option to add text—the longer the better—and choose your color. You can choose the font (there are lots of free options) and whether you want a shadow or not. You can then erase parts of the text, add gradients to the text, and change the perspective with a 3D rotate tool.

Next, edit the photo with loads of filters and overlays like dust, glass, light, and space. You can even adjust the exposure, brightness, and contrast before finishing. Lastly, you can even add a watermark. It may be your name, another image, or a logo. I regularly use this app for my church to create sermon quotes, and I add the church logo on each photo. You can also create a simple text watermark within the app and add your name as a signature to the photo.

When you’re done editing, just click “OK, Share” and you can share it to nearly any social media app. Normally, I find that photo apps do one thing really well but lack in areas of other necessity. Typorama will give you the ability to create great images with text and make them look classy, all within the one app, without ever having to use another app again. And while this app isn’t free, the small fee of $2.99 will be well worth the money after you make all of your friends jealous by showing off your skills.
