I Give My Stuff Away
Wouldn’t eBay be much more awesome if you didn’t have to spend any money but could still get stuff you wanted? You’re young, in desperate need of cool stuff, and broke at the same time. If that’s you, you’re going to like this article. There is a new app called “Yerdle” that allows you to go shopping for free. Quite literally. The catch? You have to give away stuff to get stuff. Here’s how it works:
- Download the Yerdle app from the app store or go to http://Yerdle.com.
- Dig in your closet, garage, or basement to find cool stuff you just don’t need as much any more.
- Add a picture of the item and a description.
- Wait for hundreds of imaginary points to start being bid on your item.
- Mail the item to the winner—and winner pays shipping.
It’s that easy to get rid of stuff. I had an old graphing calculator I haven’t used in six years because Excel does any higher-level math for me. What did I do? I Yerdled it! I got around 1000 points through a “get it now” option. The fun part, though, comes in the next section. Once you’ve sold old junk, you can go buy new junk! These are items people don’t want anymore or bought too much of. To them, they’re meaningless and basically worthless. But a 40mm camera lens, a 120” screen projector, or a new Coach purse may be worth something to someone else.
There are two ways to get an item: get it now or bidding. Get it now is as simple as it sounds: pay a certain amount of points, pay for shipping, and it’s yours. Bidding gets a little more complex. With bidding, you’re required to start at a base number of points then compete against others to win. In this area, it’s pretty much like eBay. You will need to keep in mind when the time on the auction expires else you’ll get outbid. And you do have to pay for shipping, which is $2, $3, or $4. I’m not sure who came up with the idea, but it’s genius! Get rid of stuff you don’t want anymore, and get stuff other people don’t want any more.
