Why Bible Quiz? Youth Leaders’ Perspectives
We were recently asked the question, “Why Bible Quiz?” As ministers to young people, in our opinion, Bible quizzing is of utmost importance because we know how difficult it can be to help build and strengthen a young person’s walk with God. Many young people are focusing their time and energy on worldly things. Right? Movies, video games, sports, drugs, and sex are among the activities they participate in, but none of these honor God. Even with the best teaching, it can be difficult to break down the walls of pride, selfishness, and arrogance that surround many young people. But where our words fall short, the word of the Lord is pure and sharper than any two edged sword.
Do you want to get closer to God? Then Bible quiz. Need a new hobby? You should Bible quiz. No, really…Bible quiz! With Bible quizzing, you are given the opportunity to study and memorize the word of God. The psalmist said it best in Psalm 119:11, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”
Through Bible quizzing, our focus shifts from worldly things to godly things. You can begin to see God’s truth revealed right in front of your very own eyes. You will see this world for what it is, and you will quickly realize how unattractive it truly is. We know we don’t have to worry as much about our quizzers being drawn to the things of this world because they have hid the Word of God in their hearts, and they desire something greater than this world has to offer.
Still need another reason to Bible quiz? Those who are involved in Bible quizzing are some of the greatest people around. Seriously. Unlike friends in the world, the friends you meet through Bible quizzing are loyal, wonderful people. Once a month, you get to travel to another church in the state and hang out with people from different churches, and you have FUN! Most teams meet up the night before a quiz tournament and have a blast! Laser tag, mall trips, junk food…what could be better on a Friday night?
Bible quizzing is near and dear to our hearts because we have seen our young people strengthen their own relationships with God. One even said, “I can understand the sermon now that I’ve been quizzing!” They have gained a deeper understanding of the sermons being preached and the lessons being taught.
As a Bible quizzer, you will meet lifelong friends, and have some of the best experiences you could ever ask for. Most importantly, you WILL get closer to God. That should be enough reason for anyone to join.
Now go, and get involved!
