Apostolic Music Review: Glad
Album: Glad
Artist: Louisiana All-State Youth Choir
The album begins with an overture: a complex and brilliant preview of this album. It runs right into the first song, Believe. Believe encourages us that there are great things in store in our lives if we’ll choose to do as the title says.
The next track, When I Think About You, features a very cool pop guitar riff that drives the message. The song takes a look back at where we were before Jesus and praises Him for taking us far away from our past.
Seek First is derived from the Bible passage in Matthew 6:33. Seek First is a ballad that picks up tempo in the bridge. This is a song I’d have playing during prayer.
So Glad is a song thanking God for His saving power. My favorite line is, “I would be like a ship without a sail; I would fail.”
The next song, Today, features an amazing organ intro. This is a great song to start your morning with.
Hosanna is a gospel throwback. At 155 beats-per-minute, this song will get you movin’.
Forever Faithful is a beautiful song about surrendering to God and recognizing His love for us “in spite of what we used to be.”
I’m in Love With You feels like a contemporary gospel song with a Caribbean flare.
Next is Find Love, a gorgeous song that encourages us to search for God and find rest and love in His presence.
Breathe Over Me keeps the atmosphere from the previous song and is sung as a prayer that flows into Set a Fire.
The last song, Overcomer, finishes this album with a victorious message that will get you pumped up and confident in the power of God that is working in us.
Much of this album has an “old school” gospel feel with a refreshing update. It is very inspiring to know that ten of these thirteen songs are originals—written specifically for this project. The band is extremely tight, and the vocals are powerful. You will be blessed by these anointed young people!
