Our New Name
KFC, FBI, NASA. Any ideas what those letters represent? The first one serves amazing original recipe or crispy chicken in more than just the state of Kentucky thankfully. Hopefully you never come across someone from the FBI because you’d be dealing with a federal agent. If you want to shoot for the stars or land on the moon, you’ll be most interested in the last acronym, NASA.
Acronyms and abbreviations shorten everything up. Nobody’s got time to say “National Aeronautics and Space Administration.” So we use abbreviations and acronyms. What does all this mean do to you? We’re glad you asked.
If you’ve been familiar with the United Pentecostal Church International (UPCI), no doubt you’ve heard the phrase GYD. This represented the General Youth Division of the UPCI (another abbreviation). Recently, at General Conference in Kansas City, the ministers of the UPCI passed a resolution to adopt the new name of the division. The GYD is now UPCI Youth Ministries. We say YM, for short. The YM represents five major ministries: Apostolic Youth Corps, Senior Bible Quizzing, Campus Ministry International, Project7 Bible Clubs, and Hyphen.
So why the new name? The leadership wanted to simplify the vision of the department, identify with the UPCI, and clarify who our ministry reaches. Along with the new name came a new logo. Enjoy!
The YM team is excited about the new name, look and the bright future ahead! We believe you will be, too.
