It’s that time of year again. We’ve already started making the transition from summer apparel to winter! The two wardrobes couldn’t be more drastically different if they tried. So there is fall—the go-between and middle man—there to help make the transition a little smoother. The cool weather starts to tip toe in as we ever so slightly start changing out the open-toed shoes for a lighter boot and the cool tops for a thicker fabric.

We do not doubt you will do just fine picking out sweaters, bottoms, and accessories. So I am here to introduce to you some top color trends you can be on the lookout for. It is easy to gravitate towards safe hues you’ve grown familiar with, such as earth tones and black for the fall months. But these shades of color will add some variety to your closet. Instead of sticking with what you know, try to snag one piece in a new color. Even though they may seem different, they can act as a foundation or layer to pre-existing outfits. You may be surprised at how much a random shade of purple in a sweater can spice up what is already hanging in your closet.

Cobalt/Royal Blue
This is such a rich jewel tone that can fit into the closet of men and women alike. Girls can accent with this color through a gorgeous bag or pair of heels, while men can snag a sweater or scarf. The shade will fit in with almost everything you already own by acting as a basic color in many ways. It’s not black; it’s not navy blue; but it stands all by itself.

Sangria
Yet another jewel tone. If you could get one bottom in this shade, you would be set to add almost any top you desire: denim, black, grey, formal or informal. A blazer in sangria would even transition well into winter.

Mustard Yellow
Are we seeing a trend yet? Jewel tones are where it’s at! The same goes for mustard yellow as it goes for sangria. Grab a basic item in this color, and you will be surprised at all you can pair with it. JCrew often sells a striking wool skirt in mustard yellow, and if the guys are feeling adventurous, they could even grab a pair of pants in this color.

Cognac
Picture an awesome coat in this color. It’s the perfect hue to not be too heavy or too light. Even a cable-knit baggy sweater would give the same look. Pair it with a tweed or plaid item, and you will be ready to go! Or you can purchase a pair of shoes in cognac to compliment most of your fall colors quite effortlessly.

Aluminum
Say hello to your new neutral! Ditch the tan, black, and navy basics. Grey is a color that can bring so much life to your outfits by acting as a neutral but giving the old basics a break. Grab a pair of Oxford shoes or heels in this color, and you are guaranteed to wear them out.

Orchid/Mauve
We understand this is not a color you would imagine for fall. It’s a bit bright, isn’t it? That’s what makes this option so fun! Throw in a light sweater of orchid or mauve, and watch as your whole outfit perks up while still being autumn appropriate. For the guys, we can understand if you would be a bit shy to try this color, but in a dress shirt or tie, it’d be quite subtle.
